Research topics

Orthodontists interfere with the biological system of the patient. The important question is how to optimize the biological response in order to improve treatment efficiency and stability. Thus, integration of biological knowledge and clinical experience is essential, which is reflected in the department’s name and research activities.

Research themes include wound healing and regenerative procedures in cleft palate, improvement of interdisciplinary treatment of orthognathic patients with 3D techniques and advanced orthodontic appliances and risk factors affecting treatment.

Every orthodontic resident is involved in clinical or basic research. Undergraduate dental students participate in our research projects as well (bachelor and master projects).

Faculty, graduate students and post-docs work on their research in a clinical research environment or in the lab for craniofacial biology.

Information about our current research interests and finished PhD projects can be found on these pages.
